Sweden themes
The Swedish Newspaper Publishers have selected three themes for the 2008 congress. Three themes that highlights the importance of WAN’s mission, as well as having played a major role in forming Sweden’s strong and prosperous democracy. The first is Free minds. Necessity may be the mother of invention, but we claim that Sweden’s 241 years of freedom of the press has been a true foundation for the remarkable number of new ideas, from Linné to IKEA, from Nobel to ABBA, our small country has produced.
Innovation is a key issue for media businesses, but an absolute necessity to meet the obvious threats to the environment of this planet.
And finally, Sustainability, that mirrors the Swedes’ love for nature. And maybe, just maybe, that relationship with nature has had an impact on how Swedes see the rights and responsibilities of freedom.
