Swedish is the language spoken in Sweden. The vocabulary is mainly Germanic but medical or religious words have a Greek or Latin origin. During the 18th century a large number of French words where introduced to the Swedish language. Lately more English vocabulary has been introduced as well.

That most Swedes speak English is a result of an early introduction of English in school. Another reason for it may be the fact that the foreign TV shows are not dubbed at the cinemas or on TV, instead subtitles are run.
